Who I am
I’m Caleb Dishman, a Power BI consultant specializing in executive reporting, scalable semantic models, and performance-optimized DAX. I help teams replace fragile, manual reporting with governed Power BI solutions that are fast, trusted, and easy to maintain.
My work spans the full lifecycle—data modeling, Power Query, SQL integration, measure design, and workspace/RLS strategy—delivered with clear standards and a practical handoff so your team can operate confidently after launch.
My Background
My Power BI consulting and executive reporting expertise has been shaped through four distinct phases—each building the technical depth, stakeholder discipline, and governance mindset required to deliver reporting that leadership can trust.
Foundation: Data, systems, and problem solving
My early work centered on developing strong technical fundamentals across data analysis, reporting, and system thinking. As I advanced, I leaned into the craft of building reliable reporting from the ground up—learning how data models, transformation logic, and business definitions either reinforce trust or quietly undermine it. This phase formed the backbone of how I approach analytics today: clarity first, then structure, then performance.
Consulting: Delivering outcomes across organizations
I moved into consulting and began delivering end-to-end BI solutions for teams that needed faster decisions and better visibility. Working across different business functions and reporting environments taught me a consistent pattern: most “dashboard problems” are not visual—they are definition, modeling, and governance problems. This experience sharpened my ability to translate executive questions into measurable KPIs, build pragmatic roadmaps, and ship solutions that stakeholders actually adopt.
Power BI specialization: Executive reporting and model performance
As Power BI became my primary platform, my work deepened into semantic model design, advanced DAX, refresh reliability, and performance remediation. I’ve supported finance and operations reporting where accuracy and reconciliation are non-negotiable—standardizing KPI definitions, correcting model design issues, optimizing measures, and ensuring reports remain responsive as complexity grows. This is the work I’m most known for: fixing the root causes behind slow, inconsistent, or untrusted reporting.
Scale and enablement: Governance, access control, and training
Sustainable reporting requires more than a good build—it requires standards and enablement. Today, I regularly help organizations implement governance and access control (including Row-Level Security), establish maintainable modeling patterns, and train both developers and end users. The goal is to leave clients with a reporting system that can scale: consistent definitions, controlled distribution, and a team that understands how to operate it confidently.
These four phases shape how I work now: align KPI definitions and outcomes first, stabilize the model, optimize for performance, then implement governance and enablement so the solution stays trusted over time. If you need Power BI reporting that holds up at an executive level—accurate, reliable, and defensible—I can help you get there.
